Cambridge United are close to signing former Grays Athletic and Leyton Orient striker Wayne Gray on a free transfer. The 29-year-old has been on trial with the U's since the start of pre-season.
Boss Martin Ling told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It looks promising that Wayne could be here for six months to start with to see how he does.
"The contract's not signed but there's been initial talks between me and Wayne saying that I'd like him to stay for a little bit longer."
Gray played under Ling at Leyton Orient, but he has been dogged by injuries since leaving Brisbane Road in May 2009.
The forward, who has scored once during his trial spell at the Abbey, was released by Grays Athletic at the end of last season.
