John Schofield has agreed a two-year deal to become Cambridge United's new first team coach. The 45-year-old has been working with the U's since the start of pre-season.

Manager Martin Ling told the club website: "John has done an excellent job since he's come in and I feel he's the missing ingredient.

"John is a highly qualified coach with a Uefa Pro Licence and there are only 150 people in the English game with this licence, including myself."

Schofield has formerly managed Lincoln City, and had coaching roles at Scunthorpe, Walsall and Cheltenham Town.
