Uniteds first win on the board against Eastbourne

United doubled their season points tally with a first victory at home to Eastbourne Borough, now lying on 6 points from 6 games things are looking slightly better for The U's ahead of saturdays game against Gateshead. Goals from Josh Coulson and a free-kick from James Jennings wrapped up the points in a game which although not the greatest performance, United never looked like losing the game.

Cambridge got off to the best start possible with Josh Coulson heading in from a corner after just 6 minutes, Daryl Clare making his first start of the season had a chance to double the lead being played in by strike partner Danny Wright but could only strike at the keeper. Chances were few and far but all were for United as they looked to boost the lead, the second goal didn't come until just before half time with Wright working to win a free kick 25-30 yards from goal. After many over-played set pieces, James Jennings stepped up to hit this one direct into the top right corner scoring sensationally. Eastbournes only threat was from long throw-ins and it seemed that was all they played for as well as long balls. In the second half Cambridge did make a meal of some of these though with several dropping just the wrong side of the post luckily for Uniteds sake. Willmott replaced Miller who picked up an knock in a crunching tackle and very quickly found himself through online but couldn't direct his shot past the Borough keeper. Eastbourne then struck the bar and were denied by a brilliant double save from Simon Brown with their best chance of the game however that was to be it in a game that should hopefully kick-start Cambridge's season for the arrival of Gateshead to The Abbey on saturday.
